Bottom Discharge Valves

Bottom discharge valves are located at the lowest point of rail tank cars and tanks and close the vessel safely whenever no loading or unloading is taking place. VENTAIX offers two versions: the hydraulic BVH-80-G205 for the liquid and gas phase on pressurised gas tank cars, and the steam-heatable BV125-T for discharging temperature-sensitive cargo. Both comply with EN 14433 - on request we also manufacture bottom discharge valves to individual customer requirements.

Bottom Discharge Valves for Safe Hazardous Goods Transport

Bottom discharge valves seal rail tank cars and tank containers at the lowest point of the vessel, preventing the unintentional escape of hazardous goods. They have to withstand high mechanical and chemical loads, as they are in constant contact with the transported medium.

BVH-80-G205 for Pressurised Gas Tank Cars

Pressurised gas tank cars are loaded and unloaded from below. This requires one bottom discharge valve for the liquid phase and one for the gas phase of the cargo. The hydraulic bottom discharge valve BVH-80-G205 is ideally suited to this task. Thanks to its special design it can be used for both phases, with the usual piping to the tank crown for the gas phase realised by means of a screw connection.

Not only the screw connection but also the installation of the valve inside the tank considerably simplifies the entire installation compared with conventional methods. In addition, the dual use of the BVH-80-G205 significantly simplifies spare parts management for the complete discharge system of pressurised gas tank cars.

BV125-T for Heated Cargo

The bottom discharge valve BV125-T was developed and designed for discharging liquid cargo from rail tank cars used to transport hazardous goods. It is characterised in particular by its double-walled, steam-heatable body. Thanks to its heating capability and the large opening cross-section of DN 125, even problematic and temperature-sensitive cargo can be discharged without difficulty.

The fully encapsulated spring assembly of the BV125-T prevents the spring from jamming and, provided the valve body is sufficiently heated, allows the valve to be operated even if the cargo has hardened. The valve design is simple and maintenance-friendly, enabling straightforward servicing and replacement of the valve disc seal in just a few steps.

The bottom discharge valve BV125-T is a mechanically actuated discharge device. On request, however, this valve can also be equipped with a hydraulic or pneumatic actuator. Due to its high actuating force, the hydraulic actuator also allows the valve to be used without an additional control valve.

Approval

For use in hazardous goods transport by rail, the VENTAIX bottom discharge valves comply with EN 14433.

Materials and Design (BV125-T)

The wetted materials are 1.4571 and 1.4310, the valve seal is made from Viton, supplemented by Rulon. The connection flange to the tank has a bolt circle of 260 mm (8 x M16); the pipe connection is DN 100 in accordance with DIN 2576.

Individual Manufacture to Customer Requirements

In addition to the standard versions BVH-80-G205 and BV125-T, we also manufacture bottom discharge valves to individual customer requirements – for example with different nominal sizes, connection dimensions or material combinations.

Frequently Asked Questions about Bottom Discharge Valves

What are bottom discharge valves used for?

They safely close rail tank cars and tank containers at the lowest point of the vessel whenever no loading or unloading is taking place.

What is special about the BVH-80-G205?

It can be used for both the liquid and the gas phase on pressurised gas tank cars. The gas-phase piping to the tank crown is realised by means of a screw connection and the valve is installed inside the tank – considerably simplifying installation and spare parts management.

Can the BV125-T bottom discharge valve be heated?

Yes, the BV125-T has a double-walled, welded flanged body with steam heating – suitable for temperature-sensitive media. Thanks to the encapsulated spring assembly, the valve remains operable even if the cargo hardens.

Which standard do the VENTAIX bottom discharge valves comply with?

For use in hazardous goods transport by rail, the VENTAIX bottom discharge valves comply with EN 14433.

Does VENTAIX also supply bottom discharge valves to individual customer requirements?

Yes, in addition to the standard versions BVH-80-G205 and BV125-T we also manufacture bottom discharge valves to individual requirements, for example with different nominal sizes, connection dimensions or material combinations.
